There are now ways of improving the residual stretch marks with the Palomar Lux 1540 erbium laser. This is the first FDA-approved laser for stretch marks. Most of the stretch marks are removed with the tummy tuck, because most are at or below the belly button, and this skin is removed. For a patient like this with extensive stretch marks which extended to the upper abdomen, there is now the chance of improvement even though the skin with the stretch marks had to stay. We usually give about six treatments to blend the stretch marks with the surrounding skin. The degree of improvement is better if the stretch marks are not too wide and the skin not too thinned.
