What is Dysport™ ?

Dysport™ is botulinum toxin A. It is injected into specific facial muscles to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults under the age of 65 years old. It may be used by physicians also to treat wrinkle lines around the eyes, the crow’s feet, and the forehead. Other non-cosmetic uses of Dysport™ are for treatment of abnormal head position, neck pain and muscle spasms in adults with cervical dystonia. The only previous botulinum toxin available on the US market was Botox Cosmetic®.

We are happy to offer our patients a choice for the indications that formerly were only treated with Botox Cosmetic. Having two reputable companies offering this product will result in savings for our patients. The cost of Dysport at this time is about $20 less per area because the product cost is less for the same benefit.

How does Dysport™ work?

When a person shows expression, their facial muscles will tighten over and over again, eventually causing frown lines and wrinkles. When Dysport™ is injected into the muscles that control facial expression, it prohibits these muscles from tightening. The appearance of wrinkles and frown lines is relieved.

How long does Dysport™ last?

Dysport™ can last up to 4 months when treating frown lines and wrinkles.

Is Dysport™ safe for everyone?

It is still not known if Dysport™ is safe or effective in children under 18 years of age, but the usual age of patients using it for cosmetic purposes is older, and for these patients, it has been shown to be safe and effective.

What is the active ingredient in Dysport™ ?

Active ingredient: (botulinum toxin Type A)
Inactive ingredients: human albumin, and lactose. Dysport™ may contain cow’s milk protein.
