Brachioplasty Trims Away Excess Tissue for Contoured Arms

Are your bat arms making you consider a brachioplasty? Do the sagging fat and loose tissues of your arm prevent you from wearing short sleeves? Put an end to your troubles by having a brachioplasty performed.

Your underarm can begin to accumulate sagging skin and tissue for several reasons. It could be because of the genes that you have been passed down, a result of aging, or even a product of having lost enormous amounts of weight.

Aging – It Impacts Your Arms!

Aging impacts skin elasticity which explains the sagging. Often, when you’ve happened to lose copious amounts of weight in a short period, you will notice that while your muscles have toned, now you have excessive skin that is undermining the appearance of your newfound body.

So, what do you do? You have an arm lift performed.

How Do I Prepare for A Brachioplasty?

Preparation for an arm lift surgery includes a consultation with Dr. Lowen with which you will be discussing your goals and expectations from the procedure. Dr. Lowen may review your medical history and even have a physical examination performed on you, to verify if a brachioplasty is suitable for you.

If you are a smoker, you should stop smoking in the run-up to the surgery for faster healing. You will also be asked to stay away from painkillers and other anti-inflammatory drugs that could interfere with your healing procedure.

What Is the Brachioplasty Procedure Like?

An arm lift procedure is done with unique requirements for each patient. The number of incisions required will vary, depending on the volume of excess skin and fat. If the amount of skin to be removed is minimal, the procedure may require no more than an incision in the armpit.

In most cases the incision extends from the armpit to the elbow. When an arm lift and breast lift are performed at the same time, the incisions may connect where excess skin at the side of the breast is removed.

Anesthesia will be administered to you. The surgery takes about three hours, depending on the extent of the corrections needed. Sutures are placed internally. They will be absorbed by your body gradually; there is no need to have them removed later. The area will be bandaged, and may be fitted with a supportive compression garment, to minimize post-surgical swelling.

What Is My Recovery Like?

A brachioplasty is an outpatient body contouring procedure performed under general anesthesia. The arms are wrapped with ace bandages for several days, and then a compression sleeve garment is worn for two weeks. Sutures are absorbable and under the skin, so no sutures need to be removed.

Your Brachioplasty Results

An arm lift is a great cosmetic procedure to help you achieve firm and toned arms. Your arms may begin to start sagging again with age and weight gain or loss but maintaining a proper diet and exercise routine can help you preserve your toned arms for an extended period.
