The Facial Fat Transfer Process

Facial fat grafting is a three-step process:

Step 1 – A local anesthetic is injected to numb the chosen donor regions, typically the flanks or the abdomen. Liposuction is employed to remove excess fatty tissue from these regions. This involves insertion of a cannula and use of vacuum pressure to remove the cells through the cannula. Liposuction must be performed gently in order to preserve the health of the fat cells.

Step 2 – Puregraft is used to purify the harvested fatty tissue. The Puregraft system is a trusted technology in modern fat purification and consistently filters out 97% of unnecessary materials, leaving behind only the healthiest fat cells for grafting. This results in longer-lasting higher-quality results.

Step 3 – The treatment areas are numbed with a local anesthetic. The purified donor fat is injected into these areas using fine blunt cannulas, creating even and natural-looking results. This process involves precision and can take some time.

Facial Fat Grafting Recovery

Once the facial fat transfer procedure is complete, patients can return home to heal. Patients must not put pressure on the face during healing, since this can lead to migration of the fat cells or other complications.

After about three days, patients can return to their normal everyday chores around the home. They can usually return to work in around a week or sometimes sooner.

The recovery process involves very little bruising and a degree of swelling; these will be temporary and will fade shortly. Initial results will be noticeable immediately, and full results will be apparent after swelling and bruising have faded.
